GOLAN HEIGHTS REGION

The place where the Israel wine revolution began

The Golan Heights is in the north east of the country. This was where new world winemaking expertise first arrived in Israel in the 1980’s, starting the quality wine revolution. The Golan is a volcanic plateau overlooked by the snow-covered Mount Hermon and overlooking the Sea of Galilee. The soils are volcanic tuff and basalt stone. Elevations rise up to 1,200 meters above sea level.
